York was absolutely incredible this weekend. I had a fantastic time at the Fantasy and Book Lovers Expo (FABLE). Going into it, I kept my expectations low since it is a newer convention, and I was not quite sure what the turnout or atmosphere would look like. What I found was a massive crowd of convention-goers who were just as passionate about dark, immersive worlds as I am. When readers stopped by my table, I actually had to consciously slow myself down so I would not overwhelm them with the lore of Veil of Obsidian and my love of giant-stomping robots in Battle Engines. Their enthusiasm was truly contagious.
Beyond the booth, I met countless interesting people and had the opportunity to run my very first panel on map-making. Creating geography is such a crucial part of fantasy world-building, and sharing that with a room full of engaged attendees was a major highlight. It was incredibly humbling to have multiple people approach me after the session to say how much they enjoyed the discussion and to ask follow-up questions about the process itself.
I am leaving FABLE feeling reenergized. It is deeply rewarding to know so many new readers walked away with my novels in their hands, ready to dive into the Battle Engines universe or into the dark world of Obsidian. For now, I am going to soak in this fantastic feeling and get back to writing until the next convention rolls around.
Thank you, FABLE. I had a truly amazing time.
